audi a4

The Audi A4 is a compact executive car produced by the German car manufacturer Audi AG since late 1994. The initial generation A4 succeeded the four previous generations of the Audi 80. And just like its Audi 80 predecessor, the Audi A4 automobile layout consists of a longitudinally oriented engine at the front, with transaxle-type transmissions mounted immediately to the rear of the engine, again, oriented longitudinally. Drive output is transmitted to either the front wheels, or on some models, utilising Audi's 'trademark' quattro permanent four-wheel drive system via a Torsen centre differential.

Since its inception, the Audi A4 has been available in four generations, based on the Volkswagen Group 'B' series of automobile platforms. Audi's internal numbering convention therefore treats the A4 as a logical continuation of the Audi 80 lineage, hence the initial A4 was designated as the B5-series, followed by the subsequent B6 and B7, and the current B8.

Of the main body styles, it is (and always has been) available as a saloon/sedan variant, and an "Avant", which is Audi's name for an estate/wagon. The second (B6) and third generations (B7) of the A4 also had a Cabriolet version. For the current fourth generation (B8), the A4 Cabriolet was replaced by Audi A5 and S5 Cabriolet variants. The smaller Audi A3 also received a cabriolet version as well.

Additionally, higher performance versions directly related to the A4 include the Audi S4, and the limited availability quattro GmbH-developed very high performance Audi RS4.

audi tt

The Audi TT is a two-door sports car manufactured by Audi Hungaria Motor Kft. in Győr, Hungary, since 1998, for the German automaker and Volkswagen Group subsidiary AUDI AG.

The Audi TT is now in its second generation — and both generations have been available in two car body styles; as a 2+2 Coupé, or two-seater Roadster. They have been built on consecutive generations of the Volkswagen Group A platform, starting with the A4 (PQ34). As a result of this platform-sharing, the Audi TT has identical powertrain and suspension layouts as its related platform-mates; this includes a front-mounted transversely oriented engine, front-wheel drive or quattro permanent four-wheel drive system, and fully independent front suspension using MacPherson struts.

audi s4

The Audi S4 is the high performance variant of Audi's compact executive car. The original Audi S4, built from 1991 until 1994, was a performance-oriented version of Audi's 100 saloon/sedan. All subsequent S4s since 1997 have been based on the Audi A4; and as the A4 has evolved from one generation to the next, so has the S4.

A more powerful internal combustion engine, larger uprated brakes, firmer suspension, and larger roadwheels have always been amongst the many upgrades the S4 receives over its mainstream 100 and A4 siblings. In markets where the even higher-performance Audi RS4 is not offered, the S4 is the top-of-the-line trim of the A4 family.

Like its regular A4 counterpart, all S4 variants have had longitudinally oriented, front-mounted engines. A single turbocharged 2.2 litre inline five-cylinder powered the original C4 version, and a 2.7 litre 'biturbo' V6 engine was found in the B5 generation. The B6 and B7 versions shared a common 4.2 litre V8 engine, the first time that a V8 engine was placed in a compact executive car, placing it in direct competition with the BMW M3 which at the time had a 3.2 L inline 6. The recently introduced B8 generation uses a supercharged 3.0 litre V6 TFSI engine and competes with the BMW 335i, particularly the 2011 BMW 335is.

All versions of the S4 have their transmission mounted immediately at the rear of the engine in a longitudinal orientation, in the form of a transaxle, and like all Audi "S" cars, are only available as standard with Audi's quattro four-wheel drive (4WD) system. Although always marketed by Audi as "quattro" a Torsen-based centre diff system.
All versions of the S4 have been manufactured at Audi's plant in Ingolstadt, Germany; they are, or have been available as a four-door five-seatsaloon, a five-door five-seat Avant (Audi's name for a estate car/station wagon) body styles have been available since the model's inception in 1991. A two-door four-seat Cabriolet (convertible) S4 variant was introduced as part of the B6 and B7 generation A4 lineups. The B8 Cabriolet has now been built off the A5 coupe body style and the "S" variant is marketed under the Audi S5 nameplate.

Audi A8

First Generation (1994-2002)

The first generation Audi A8 offered various engine choices. The A8 was first offered in European market. The all new Audi Space Frame work used in the construction of body reduced the overall weight to large extent, without sacrificing the structural rigidity.
The Audi A8 was slightly redesigned in 1997 and it was offered in either front wheel drive or in Torsen Quattro four wheel drive. The standard engine to the model was 2.8 liter V6 version that delivers 190 hp, while other engines offered as optional include 3.7L V8 and 4.2L V8. The standard luxury features in the model were enhanced BOSE audio system, 14-way power and heated seats, wood and leather interior trim and dual zone climate control.

Second Generation (2002-Present)

The Audi A8 is totally redesigned in 2002. It is designed based on the Volkswagen Group D2. The engine options and the features remain same as that of in the previous model.
As far as the exterior dimensions of the A8 are concerned, it has the wheel base of 113.5 inches, length of 198.2 inches, width of 74.0 inches and height of 56.6 inches. The Audi A8 is related to Audi S8.
2011 Audi A8 comes with 4.2-liter DOHC V-8. featuring an increase of about 22 hp and 4 lb-ft of torque, but you’ll have to shell out about $90, 000 to get your hands on the latest version of A8.

This time around, the new hp level would be 372 hp, and with 4lb-ft increase, new Audi A8 will deliver 328 lb-ft. The LED headlamps, and bigger tires would mark the styling cues of new A8.

LOOKING at the Audi e-tron sports car, you'd hardly be surprised to learn that it can go from 0 to 100kmh in under five seconds.

But this fact might surprise you - it runs completely on batteries.

The concept car, which was on display at the Clean Energy Expo Asia last week, is the first electric vehicle the German carmaker has built from scratch.

It will likely cost more than the Tesla Roadster, another battery-powered sports car also displayed at the expo.

But wait. Aren't electric vehicles usually fuddy-duddy golf cart lookalikes that are more suited for grocery shopping than the race track? Mr Martin Freudenhagen, head of Audi's Project Management Electrification A-Sequment, doesn't think so.

He told The New Paper: "People think that electric cars are boring. We want to show that it's possible to create an electric car that delivers the performance and excitement of a sports car."

Though still in the concept phase - limited production of the e-tron is expected in two years - Audi knows who its customer will be.

Someone with the money and "is an early adopter in automotive and energy efficiency technology", Mr Freudenhagen said.

While the e-tron is not the first sports car to run on electricity - that honour goes to the Venturi Fetish - it may be a common sight on city roads soon.

A mass market option, the A1 e-tron, is expected to hit the roads in three to four years.

Although electric vehicles (EVs) may be good for the environment, such cars are a rarity here.

The Land Transport Authority said Singapore has just two EVs, compared with over 585,000 petrol-based ones.

Still, with Singapore committed to a 16 per cent emissions cut by 2020, the future for green cars looks bright.

Mr David Chou, managing director of electric conversion firm EV World, said: "It's about changing people's habits. In densely built-up Singapore, being at the wheel of an electric car that generates no noise can give people peace of mind."

Audi a4 interior

A decade in the automotive industry is like the passing of the Mesozoic era; a lot changes. In 2001, Hyundais were questionable and Toyota was infallible. Pontiac, Oldsmobile and Plymouth existed. Scion did not. So it may come as a bit of a surprise that it's been 10 years since Volvo pulled an all-new S60 out of the oven.

audi a4 interior

With the exception of an ornery transmission and navigation system, the 2011 S60 was worth the wait.

Volvos have always been long on safety and (with a few exceptions) short on sporty. The company knew that if it was intent on positioning the S60 as competitive against the segment's leading performers like the Audi A4 and BMW 3 series, engineers were going to have to channel their inner Emeril Lagasse and "kick it up a notch."

To wit, the engine in the S60 T6 all-wheel drive I tested (base price is $38,550) was a three-liter, turbo-charged six-cylinder gem that pumps out 300 horsepower and 325 pound-feet of torque. The power comes on smooth, the turbo lag is minimal and Volvo estimates a zero-to-60 time of 5.8 seconds, which frankly seems conservative.

Power is routed to the standard AWD system through a six-speed automatic transmission with a manual mode (but no paddle shifters.)

This transmission is clearly the weak link in the car's performance, especially when you push it. In full-automatic mode, the S60 avoids the red line like a frightened turtle and instead upshifts too eagerly. Thinking you're clever by kicking the transmission into manual mode only nets you slow shifts in either direction.

The rest of the S60's character is indeed sporty, though it doesn't quite have the dance moves to vault it to the top of the segment. There is minor body roll and understeer, but overall it's a very balanced, solid ride.

The sport mode affords the driver a bit more leeway in tossing the car around turns before engaging the stability and traction control.

The steering feel is excellent, and drivers can choose from three levels of power assistance, though this feature is ultimately superfluous as "normal" mode is the best choice.

Those who think the S60 T6 is too powerful or too expensive should consider the T5. A starting price of $32,300 gets buyers a front-wheel drive car with a 2.5-liter, five-cylinder turbocharged engine good for 250 horsepower and 266 pound-feet of torque.

The only thing better than the T6's engine is the car's interior.
